On one of our NMVT Performance Training webinars last week, Jamie Barclay talked about Time and it really got me thinking. He talked about how time is our greatest asset and that on average, we have about 4000 weeks to live. Wow… that put things in perspective!
It is so very important to apply good time management skills to everything you do, especially in business, so that you can use every day the best you can and enjoy life. It got me thinking so much that I made some phone calls to people I love just to say I love you or sorry for being rude, and I found myself being extra patient with my kids because every time I looked at them, I realized that they are growing up so fast and that every minute matters.
Starting your own business is exciting for many of being their own boss is appealing. But the reality is that most people make terrible bosses for themselves. Once they find themselves alone, time management, which is one of the most important aspects to any business success, flies out the window. The refrigerator and email become your new co-workers and it’s easy to ’work’ all day without getting anything done.
I am guilty of bad time management skills in the past, but am happy to have finally found a mastermind group of online entrepreneurs who are helping me get focused and apply some great time management strategies. I’d like to share 5 great time management tips with you now to get you going in the more productive direction…
1. Never begin the day until it’s finished on paper.
If you know EXACTLY what you need to do, and it’s written down in front of you, you can be much more efficient. Don’t get distracted or do anything else until the top 3 most important things are done. It’s amazing how quickly you can do this if you it’s written down and you make it a goal. Then… you can go ENJOY your day knowing you have done something production towards your business.
2. Keep a Time Log
Record everything you do and then categorize it into productive and unproductive lists. Analyse your results and when you figure out what is working, focus only on those things. Get rid of the time wasting activites and go ENJOY your day instead.
3. Work During Your Biological Prime Time
For me, that is morning, when I am fresh and focused. For some, it’s the middle of the night. Figure out what your prime time is, and use it. Then, go ENJOY your day!
4. Avoid Perfectionism
This one was REALLY hard for me… and still is. But being productive and is way more effective than trying to do things perfectly. Plus, no one really cares if you you’re perfect and in fact, most likely prefer that you are not. So get out of your own way and just do something that will get you closer to your goal, without worrying what others will think. You are your own worst critic by far, and I know this because I am mine too.
5. Learn to say NO
Saying no actually opens you up to what’s truly important to you. So unless, something is going to get you closer to your goal, just say no.
Use today wisely and enjoy your day!
Rebecca
PS The performance training webinars are part of the Network Marketing VT membership I recently joined. There are two per week and if personal development and internet marketing education are priorities to you, then I highly recommend you join. If you want to change your life, then YOU have to change first. Plus, NMVT is also a high paying affiliate program, so you can actually earn as you grow. Kind of a no brainer if you ask me.
